Montsalvat
Montsalvat is Australia’s oldest artists’ community, set amid unique grounds and buildings, a place where art is made, taught, exhibited, performed and celebrated. Founded by Justus Jörgensen in 1934, Montsalvat, throughout its long and productive history, has nurtured the creation of art in all its forms – painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, jewellery, ceramics, glass, textiles, poetry and literature, drama, musical composition, performance and musical instrument making.
Montsalvat is classified by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and is self-supporting: it receives no ongoing funding from state or federal governments.
Montsalvat is a creative hub, conveniently located in Eltham, thirty-five minutes from central Melbourne, at the entrance of the Yarra Valley. It welcomes the local community and visitors from near and far to its exhibitions and performances and invites them to enjoy its unique buildings, restaurant, extensive gardens and rich cultural history.
